A man carrying Rs 10 lakh in unaccounted cash has been arrested in the city's Burrabazar area, a senior police officer said Friday.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Kolkata Police intercepted Shadab Ahmed Siddiquee at Rabindra Sarani in Burrabazar police station area on Thursday evening and seized his bag full of cash, he said.

"We had information from a credible source that Shadab, a resident of Bidhangarh in South 24 Parganas district, was carrying huge amount of cash with no valid documents. He could not give any satisfactory reply when asked about the source of the money," the officer said.

With the model code of conduct in place in view of the Lok Sabha elections, any person carrying cash above Rs 50,000 has to provide evidence of its legitimacy or he might be susceptible to action by the authorities.
