Mohammad Mustaqim Miyan, who was absconding after he allegedly strangulated his wife Rihana at their residence in Begampur, was apprehended from Champaran yesterday, B S Jaiswal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer), said.

"The relations between them were not cordial from the beginning. They always fought on petty issues. Most of the time Rihana used to stay with her parents. This created doubt in his mind about his wife. He used to blame Rihana that he was not the father of their children," Jaiswal said.

On April 25, he gave his son some money and asked him to go to his aunt's house on the pretext that he was going to the doctor for check-up of Rihana.

"He then took Rihana to a room, tied her hands and legs with clothes and strangulated her. After ensuring that she was dead, he fled," Jaiswal said.
