A man was charred to death in a fire that broke out at his shop in south West Delhi's Dwarka today.

Police said that the grocery store owner, identified as Vijay Sitaram, had rushed inside his blazing shop in Chanakya Place to pullout the cash box.

The fire broke out at around 1 PM today when the victim was having lunch.

He stayed in an apartment above his shop, police said.

According to police, he rushed downstairs as soon he heard a loud noise.

In an attempt to fetch the cash box and other belongings, he entered the shop but by the time he tried to get out, the fire had spread and he was trapped inside.

"The exit to the building was blocked and the man got stuck inside. By the time the fire officials arrived, he was charred to death," a senior officer said.
