A man climbed a mobile tower and threatened to jump off during an anti-encroachment drive here today.

Officials succeeded in persuading him to come down after a 30-minute drama.

Santosh Chouhan (45) climbed a mobile tower during a drive against illegal slums in Bhuri Tekri area and threatened to commit suicide to protest demolitions, said an official of the Indore Municipal Corporation.

Officials talked to him for nearly half an hour before he finally agreed to climb down.

Chouhan lives in one of the illegal shanties, the official said.

Over 600 unauthorised shanties in Bhuri Tekri area are being removed in a phased manner, and residents are being provided temporary shelters, the official said.

They would be provided permanent tenements, to be built under the Pradhanmantri Awas Yojana, in the same locality, he said.
