Security apparatus at the Delhi airport today went into a brief tizzy after the perimeter defence system blared an alarm as a man climbed the boundary wall in the dead of the night.

Officials involved in the security of the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) said the intrusion was detected at about 1:10 AM near watch tower no 35 and immediately a quick reaction team of CISF personnel was sent to the spot.

As it was pitch dark, they said, nothing was visible from a distance.

"A man, who looked to be unsound, was found scaling the perimeter wall of the airport. He was apprehended by the CISF team and was later handed over to the police," a senior official said.

The man, whose identity could not be ascertained immediately, was questioned by security officials and his motive to climb the perimeter wall does not look be suspicious, they said.

However, the police is investigating the matter, they said.
