Man crushed to death, protesters torch nine trucks

A man was crushed to death today by a speeding truck at Manichak village in Bihar's Nalanda district that sparked off a protest by the local people who torched nine trucks, police sources said.

The incident took place when a speeding truck fatally ran over one Virendra Singh (40) while he was walking by the roadside, the sources said.

A mob gathered on the spot and blocked Islampur-Gaya road and stalled vehicular traffic and torched nine trucks to protest the death of Singh, they said.

The protesters also pelted stones on the cops after they reached there to pacify the angry villagers, the sources said, adding the policemen later chased away the protesters.
 

Senior officials, including the Superintendent of Police (SP) Nishant Kumar Tiwari rushed to the spot and pacified the agitators.
