The husband of a 21-year-old, woman who allegedly committed suicide, was being questioned here today for attempting to cremate her body without informing the police, officials said.
The incident was reported from outer Delhi's Narela area, when Kanhaiya took Neelam's body to a cremation ground, police said.
A worker at the crematorium noticed certain marks on Neelam's neck and informed the police, who arrived just as the funeral pyre was being lit. The body sent for postmortem, police added.
The couple, residents of Uttar Pradesh, got married two years ago and were staying in Narela, they said, adding that Kanhaiya worked as a driver and the couple often got into fights over his erratic working hours.
Kanihaiya told police that he returned home last night to find his wife hanging by the neck and took her body for cremation today, the officials said.
Police are awaiting the postmortem report to ascertain the cause of death.
