Man detained on suspicion of smuggling, later let off

A man was today detained at the N S C Bose International Airport on the suspicion of gold smuggling but was later let off, Customs sources said.

Customs officials posted at the airport got suspicious when they saw 29-year-old Shiddharth Modi coming from Bangok wearing a heavy bangle in his wrist, the sources said.

They detained him and found that the bangle weight around half-a-kg of gold worth around Rs 15 lakh, sources said.

After interrogating him the officials found that the bangle belonged to Modi and he was not trying to smuggle it into the country. So he was let off, the sources added.
