A 25-year-old man died after allegedly being hit by a speeding car on the Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg in the national capital, police said today.

Manoj Yadav, working at a fruit juice shop, was crossing the road last night on his way home when he was hit by a car coming from Daryaganj, they said.

The impact of the hit was such that the victim was flung in the air and fell on an iron grill of a divider, a police official said, adding instead of stopping his car and helping the victim, the driver sped off.

"A motorcyclist stopped and informed the locals. They rushed to the spot and informed the police about the incident around 11 pm," a senior police officer said.

The victim lived near Mata Sundari College with his pregnant wife and a three-year-old daughter.

Police are scanning the CCTV footage but is yet to identify the registration number of the car. The motorcyclist too could not note down the number, the official said.
