A 40-year-old man was buried alive after a wall at a powerloom factory in Bhiwandi in the district collapsed on him, a fire brigade official said.
A portion of the wall of the powerloom unit in Faizan compound caved in around 4.20 pm and the worker, Abdul Salam Shaikh, who was asleep there at that time, died on the spot, Chief Fire Officer of Bhiwandi-Nizampur City Municipal Corporation D N Salvi said.
"The factory was shut since October 5 and there were no other workers there at the time of wall collapse," Salvi said.
After the incident, a team of firemen, Disaster Control Unit and police rushed to the site and carried out the rescue operation and cleared the debris.
