A man, suffering from heart ailments, allegedly died today following raids by the Hydel Department to check unauthorised power consumption in Khadeken locality here.

Following the incident, the residents blocked the main road of the locality and resorted to stone pelting.

District Magistrate Shiv Sahaya Awasti said the body of Khalid Mian has been sent for post mortem to ascertain whether he died his natural death due to prevailing heart ailments or other reasons.

He said two officials of the Hydel Department were injured in stone pelting by locals and were undergoing treatment at a local hospital.

Sub District Magistrate Gajendra Singh told PTI the case of Mian will be forwarded to the chief minister for financial assistance to his family "if it was found genuine".

Meanwhile, the locals alleged that the department has cut off the power supply to the entire city to "avenge" the stone pelting incident.
