A 35-year-old man died here after he was injured in police lathicharge while protesting against the alleged murder of his cousin, police said today.

Shaariq's father Wali Mohammad has alleged that one Kuldeep, living in his neighbourhood, and his friend had killed his son as they were upset with his (Shaariq) friendship with a girl from the same village, the SP said.
Tiwari said that Kuldeep was arrested yesterday and while he was being taken to the police station, Shaariq's family, along with Jasbir and other villagers, created an uproar.
Police had to resort to mild lathicharge in which Jasbir received injuries and died in hospital during treatment, Tiwari said.
The villagers staged a protest and blocked the Kanpur-Hamirpur road demanding removal of all police personnel responsible for the lathi charge.
Extra police force and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) personnel have been deployed in the village in order to avoid any untoward incident, the SP said.
He said the chowki in-charge Bholendra Chaturvedi was removed from the police station this morning and the District Magistrate has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination.
