Man dies in police custody in Jammu, SHO among 3 suspended

A man allegedly died in police custody in Akhnoor belt of Jammu district, prompting authorities to suspend three policemen, including an SHO.

Harbans Lal of Kalari village in Jammu district was arrested three days ago in connection with a murder case. He was today found dead in Khour police station, a police officer said.

The SHO Police Station Khour and two other policemen have been suspended, he said, adding that an enquiry to ascertain the exact cause of death has been ordered.

All the three suspended policemen have been attached to the district police lines in Jammu.

Hundreds of villagers, including relatives of the deceased, also held demonstration in front of the mortuary of Government Medical College here and demanded action against the erring police officials.
 

They also blamed police authorities for torturing the inmate.
