Man dies in police custody in Raj

A 28-year-old man arrested for allegedly beating up his family members, today died in police custody at Karni Vihar Police station, a senior official said.

The deceased identified as Mukesh Bheel was arrested following a complaint by his mother for beating family members, including children last evening, DCP-West K C Vishnoi told PTI.

Bheel was found unconscious in a prison of Karni Vihar police station and immediately rushed to the SMS hospital where doctors declared him brought dead, the DCP said.

The Judicial Magistrate was informed about the incident who later initiated a judicial probe into the death of the accused, he said, adding, the reason of the death would be ascertained following post-mortem and a judicial report.
 

Bheel was an alcoholic and used to beat his mother, wife and children. After filing of an FIR with Karni Vihar police station, he was arrested under section 151 of IPC for disturbing peace and indulging in unlawful act, the DCP said.

When asked whether the police tortured or gave third- degree treatment to him, the DCP said it would be a matter of judicial enquiry.
