A 35-year-old man died while fleeing after breaking into a shop in suburban Kandivli today, police said.

Maqshood Khan and his accomplice entered a general store in Lajipara in Kandivli (West) by rolling up its shutter in the early hours of morning.

However, three employees who were sleeping inside woke up, and while the accomplice managed to flee, they caught hold of Khan, police said.

There was a scuffle and one of the employees pulled down the shutter. Khan's neck got stuck in a gap between the shutter and the floor as he tried to crawl out, police said.

He passed out and was declared brought dead when the police took him to a hospital.

"We have registered a case of robbery against the deceased and his associate. The three store employees have been arrested for murder," a senior police official said.

Further probe is on, he added.
