A 35-year-old man drowned and another had a narrow escape while crossing the Kichha river on a tube of a tractor wheel here Tuesday, police said.
The incident took place at Partapur village when Ram Lal and Harpal, 38, were trying to cross the river, Superintendent of Police Bareilly (rural) Satish Kumar.
"Owing to the fast current of the river, the tube turned upside down. Harpal was able to save himself, as he knew swimming, but Ram Lal could not swim. His body was fished out by villagers from almost two kilometres from the accident site," said Kumar.
He added that the body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem.
