Man drowns while bathing in Yamuna

A 23-year-old man is suspected to have drowned while bathing in the Yamuna river, which is flowing above the danger mark, in northeast Delhi today, police said.

The deceased, Suresh, who worked as a cleaner of cluster buses in the Rajghat bus depot, had gone to take a bath in the river near Yamuna Khadar area. Some children, who were playing nearby, spotted him drowning and raised an alarm, following which the police were informed around 5.30 pm, police said.

He was rescued and taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared "brought dead", they said, adding that his body had been sent for post-mortem.
