A 54-year-old man was allegedly duped of over Rs 3 lakh after an unauthorised transaction on his credit card came to light, police said today.

The incident came to light a few days ago after Himesh Desai got a text message from his bank that Rs 3.27 lakh has been debited from his card, a senior police official said.

Desai claimed that he has not spent the amount and lodged a complaint with the Goregaon police station yesterday.

The police official said Desai was in possession of the credit card when the transaction was made on September 15.

"As Desai neither got a call asking for card details nor shared any information, we suspect it to be a case of card cloning," the official said.

"We will have to check with Desai's bank to find out on which websites his card was used," he said.

Police said a case under section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code was registered and a probe was on.
