A 35-year-old Panchayat member was today electrocuted when he came in contact with a high voltage wire in Karoli village triggering protests against the power company.

Rajbir, a Panch of the village Panchayat, was electrocuted this morning when he came in contact with the high-voltage wire while working in an under-construction toilet, police said.

Brahm Dutt, Rajbir's father, said the irate locals disrupted vehicular movement on the Karoli-Kosli road for about three hours demanding registration of a case against the power department officials for their alleged negligence.

The blockade was lifted following assurance by Lalit Mohan, Sub Divisional Officer of DHBVN, the power company, that their demands would be forwarded to the senior officials of the company, he said.

The demands included government job to a member of the family of Rajbir and a financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh and speedy rectification of the high tension wire, he said.

On his complaint, an FIR was registered on the charges of fatal negligence against the staff concerned of DHBVN.
