Man extorts money posing as police personnel, held

A 26-year-old man was arrested for extorting money while posing as a Delhi Police personnel near a wine shop in northeast Delhi, the police said today.

Ashish Chaudhary was caught while trying to extort money from a man near the wine shop in Meet Nagar, DCP (northeast) Ajit Kumar Singla said.

A team of officials from Jyoti Nagar police station spotted Chaudhary receiving money from the man. On being asked about his posting, Chaudhary claimed that he was posted in the control room of East Delhi police district, the officer said.

However, further probe revealed that he was a fake and trying to extort money, he said.
 

The accused was arrested and a Delhi Police uniform, and Rs 5,000 cash were seized from him, the officer said.
