A 24-year-old man was found dead at a farm in Waliv of Vasai in the district, police said today.
Police suspect it to be a case of murder as the victim's face was smashed beyond recognition.
The body has been sent for postmortem, they said.
A case under section 302 of IPC was registered against unknown persons even as police are trying to establish identity of the man.
Police also found broken beer bottles near the body indicating that the victim and the killers might have entered into a fight before the murder.
