A court here sentenced a man and two others to five years imprisonment for bigamy.

The sessions court handed down the punishment to Ved Prakash, Bhagwan Devi and her brother Shailendra yesterday under Section 494 of IPC.

The case was filed against Ved Prakash's wife Kusumlala naming her husband, Bhagwan Devi and Shailendra.

As per the court order, Kusumlala of Etah city was married to Ved Prakash of village Bahadurpur Kotwali Marehara in the year 1991. But Ved Prakash married Bhagwan Devi on July 7, 1995 according to Hindu religion.

The chief judicial magistrate's court had, however, acquitted Ved Prakash, Bhagwan Devi and Shailendra.

Following the appeal against the trial court verdict, the sessions court found the accused guilty of having second marriage even while the first marriage was in subsistence.

The sessions court also imposed a fine of Rs 2000 on each each of the convicts.
