A district court here has ordered an inqiry into allegation that an accused in a food adulteration case got bail after making someone else pose as him and surrender to authorities.

According to official sources, police has chargesheeted 44 people, including Haji Inayat Ali, in connection with alleged seizure of fat prepared from animal bones during a raid in 2009.

On April 21, a man identified as Amjad allegedly surrendered in court after posing as Ali. His bail appeal was denied by the lower court.

However, the district and sessions judge granted him bail on two surities of Rs one lakh each, believing that the real accused was in jail.

However, after an anonymous complaint claimed that the man in jail was not Ali and the real accused was actually free, District Judge Vijaylakshmi ordered a probe.

Amjad, meanwhile, is still in jail and his statement has been recorded, they said, adding Ali is absconding.

Ali along with others was booked under Sections 269 ,272 and 273 of IPC related to sale of adulterated food that could spread infection and endanger life on November 6, 2009.
