A local court today sentenced a man to death for raping and murdering a 58-year-old school teacher in Hojai district.
Another accused in the case was awarded rigourous imprisonment for life and five years under different sections of the IPC. The sentences will run concurrently.
The two accused, Moinul Haque (41) and Salimuddin (32), were convicted by a fast track court on July 24 for raping and strangulating the headmistress of a school in Hojai in May last year before dumping her body in river Kopili.
Salimuddin (32) will not be given the benefit of parole or remission and he shall remain behind the bars throughout his life, Additional District and Sessions Judge N Senabaya Deori said in the verdict.
