A local court has awarded death sentence to a man for murdering a middle-aged couple in 2010.

The daughter of the deceased had filed an FIR against Rahul Singh and his two accomplices, accusing them of strangulating her parents Raju and Manju Devi and hanging their bodies from separate trees in Walipur village in Dalmau police station area on September 3, 2010.

After hearing the counsel of both sides, district sessions judge KK Sharma yesterday awarded death sentence to Rahul but acquitted Dharmendra Singh and Ramdeen for lack of enough evidence.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the accused out of which Rs 20,000 will go to the daughter, government counsel Babban Tripathi said.
