Man gets life imprisonment for murdering wife

A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court for murdering his wife last year.

Joseph Kudaskutty, a resident of Vasco, was awarded the sentence on Thursday by a district and sessions court here. A fine of Rs 10,000 was also imposed on him.

The court had convicted the accused on June 12.

The killing took place on August 25, 2013 when the convict poured boiling water on his wife after a scuffle. She had sustained 80 per cent burns and was admitted to Goa Medical College, Bambolim.

She later succumbed to her injuries on September 1 and had named her husband in her dying declaration.
 

The Sessions Court convicted the accused based on the statements of the witnesses and also on the circumstantial evidence in the case.
