The sessions court here today awarded life sentence to a man accused of killing his wife because he wanted to remarry.

Anil Kanojia, the accused, went to Nirmal Nagar police station here on October 1, 2012 to register an accidental death report (ADR) saying his wife Sangeeta died due to high fever in a government hospital.

According to public prosecutor Shankar Yerende, police got suspicious when they found some injury marks on Sangeeta's neck.

The body was sent for autopsy which revealed she had been strangulated.

The police registered a case against Anil. His father Lalji was also arrested on the charge of cruelty.

According to the police, the couple got married in 2005 and have two daughters. However, Anil wanted to get rid of his wife because he wanted to remarry, the prosecution said.

The prosecution examined seven witnesses to prove its case.

Sessions judge U B convicted Anil but acquitted Lalji.
