Additional Session Judge, fast track court, Shanta Dutta Paul also awarded Nikunja Das 10 years of imprisonment for attempting to murder his wife on the same day.
Both the sentences would run concurrently.
According to prosecution, Nikunja wanted to divorce his wife Dipali and was demanding her signature on a paper on March 20, 2010, but she was unwilling.
Following an altercation, Nikunja hit Dipali with a scimitar, a type of sword, seriously injuring her.
Their 16-year-old daughter Mamoni, who was in an adjacent room, rushed in to save her mother and an angry Nikunja hit her repeatedly with the same weapon killing her on the spot.
Dipali survived and Nikunja, who had fled the village after the incident, was arrested after three months.
