A local court has sentenced a 34-year-old man to life imprisonment for murdering his wife for dowry in 2011.

Delivering the verdict yesterday, the Additional Sessions Judge M M Agrawal held Harish Chhangani guilty of murdering Usha (29), under section 302 of IPC.

The court also held Harish's parents Shyamsundar Chhangani (58) and Sheelabai (56) guilty for abetting the crime and sentenced them to seven-year rigorous imprisonment.

According to prosecution, Harish and his parents used to torture Usha asking her to bring more dowry from her father.

Prosecution said Harish strangled Usha on April 9, 2011 after she failed to fulfil demands of her in-laws' family.

Harish and his parents were arrested on an FIR lodged by Usha's parents.

The court examined 19 witnesses during the course of trial.
