The court, while sentencing him, said the case does not fall in the category of the rarest of the rare.
According to the prosecution, after the death of her first husband, the complainant Radha married Avdesh.
Avdesh came to know that Radha's first husband had left a plot in her name and started pressurising her to sell it or transfer it in his name.
Radha's mother Batahi Devi was against the transfer of the plot. On August 8 last year, the accused came home drunk and picked up a quarrel with his mother-in-law.
Radha woke up to her mother's screams the next day and saw her husband strangulating her, the prosecution said.
During the trial, the man denied the allegations against him and claimed that the property was purchased by him in his wife's name in 2010. He alleged his wife wanted to grab his property and had implicated him in the case.
