A local court today awarded life imprisonment to a man accused of killing a passer-by in an indiscriminate firing.

Additional Session Judge M K Jain convicted Sarfaraz alias Fauza (23) for murder. Apart from the life sentence, the court also imposed a fine of Rs 8,000 on him, said government lawyer Gajraj Singh Solanki.

However, the court acquitted five others in the case.

Fauza had gone berserk and indiscriminately fired in Moti Tabela area on December 14, 2011, after a court awarded a sentence to his brother Sagir in connection with another murder.

One of the bullets hit Qayyum (40), a passer-by, who died on the spot. Four others were injured.
