A US man convicted as a teenager of killing a British tourist 20 years ago has gotten a new 40-year sentence.

A Jefferson County judge sentenced Aundra Akins for the attempted murder of Margaret Jagger.

Akins was 14 years old when he took part in a 1993 shooting and robbery that wounded Jagger and left her fiance Gary Colley dead.

Akins received a 27-year sentence for second-degree murder in a plea deal but life for attempted murder after a trial. An appeals court ruled last year a juvenile cannot be sentenced to life in prison for attempted murder.

Jagger returned to Florida for the resentencing. She told the Tallahassee Democrat that she hopes Akins can stay out of trouble and have another life when he gets out of prison.
