A man who suffered 72 per cent disability after being run over by a negligently-driven DTC bus at Faridabad in 2012, has been awarded over Rs 10 lakh compensation by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) here.

"Due to the present injuries, his entire career is ruined. It is natural that with this disability and injuries, the petitioner's entire future career/earning capacity has been destroyed," MACT presiding officer Madhu Jain said.

The tribunal ordered United India Insurance Company Ltd, the insurer of the DTC bus, to pay Rs 10,33,900 to Tuglakabad resident Sudhir who met the accident on November 4, 2012.

"Petitioner (Sudhir) is able to prove that he suffered injuries due to rash and negligent driving of the respondent number 1 (bus driver)," the tribunal said, adding that the man suffered disability which caused disfigurement of his body.

According to the petition, Sudhir's left leg was crushed under the rear wheel of the DTC bus when he was about to board. The plea also alleged that the bus driver was negligent and drove away before Sudhir could get on board.

He was immediately taken to AIIMS and later shifted to Safdarjung Hospital.

The tribunal took note of the disability certificate stating that the man suffered 72 per cent disability in his left lower limb and the condition is not likely to improve.

DTC and its driver rejected the victim's claim and said they were falsely implicated in the case.
