A local court today sentenced a man to ten years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a 14-year-old girl whom he used to call his niece.

The sentence was awarded to Sujeet Siddheshwar (38) by Additional Sessions Judge Rajesh Kumar Gupta under IPC section 376 (rape) and Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).

"Siddheshwar had raped the minor on December 9, 2012 in Bhanwarkuan area. He used to call the victim his niece," Additional Public Prosecutor Santosh Chaurasia said.

The prosecution presented six witnesses, including the victim's mother, to prove the charges against Siddheshwar.

According to Chaurasia, the girl and her mother used to live with the convict. However, an unidentified person had tipped off Childline, an NGO working for protection of child rights, about her ordeal, following which, the minor was rescued from Siddheshwar's residence.
