According to public prosecutor Ashok Khamkar, the victim had gone to her native place in Sangameshwar taluka of Ratnagiri district to meet her parents and was returning to her employer's place in Vashi when the incident had taken place.
"When the girl got down from the bus in Vashi and started walking to her employer's place around 3.30 am, the accused came from behind and forcibly took her to a secluded place nearby and raped her," Khamkar said.
During the crime, Waghmare gagged her by putting a cotton ball into her mouth. Before escaping from the crime scene, he also took away the victim's ornaments, Rs 4,000 cash and a mobile phone.
The court examined around 15 witnesses and the evidence of the person to whom Waghmare had sold the victim's mobile proved helpful for the prosecution, Khamkar said.
