A man today gave police a slip after collecting bribe from a businessman on behalf of a Commercial Tax Officer.
Officials said the CTO had demanded Rs three lakh in instalments from the businessman for a favour. The man then filed a complaint with Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption officials, who set a trap and asked him to hand over the money to the the official at a lodge.
However, the official asked the businessman to hand over Rs 25,000 as the first instalment to the broker. The man did not had any other option but to do so, police said.
The official was nabbed but police found he did not have the money. Heated arguments ensued and the CTO warned them against taking him into custody for an offence he did not commit, they said, adding the official is being questioned.
