A 22-year-old man allegedly killed his girlfriend and hanged himself afterwards here, police said Wednesday.
The incident took place on late Tuesday night in an apartment in Rajpur area of the city where Krishna Malhotra had bought his 19-year-old girlfriend Kashish Mann to dissolve a dispute mutually, police said.
Both were dating each other for more than a year but differences had cropped up between them recently after the girl had started paying more attention to another man, they said.
The empty flat was owned by the husband of Malhotra's sister, Station House Officer (SHO) Rajpur police station said, adding, that while the intention was to resolve the matter, the two ended up fighting and Malhotra killed the girl by slitting her throat and later hanged himself from the ceiling fan.
The matter came to light when Malhotra's brother-in-law who lives elsewhere came looking for him as he was not picking up his phone, they said.
