Man held after snatching a woman's handbag

Helped by the courage shown by a determined passerby, police apprehended a man who snatched a handbag from a woman in East Delhi.

According to the police, Chand Kasif Husain was arrested after a passerby showed courage by chasing him and his accomplice in his car after they had snatched the hand bag of a woman in East Delhi's Mandawali area yesterday.

"At around 7:30 PM, a woman identified as Renu Sood (40) was coming in an auto rickshaw from Inter State Bus Terminal (ISBT). When her auto rickshaw reached near Akshardham metro station, two men riding a bike snatched her bag and tried to flee," said a senior police official.
 

"One Bhupendra, who saw this, followed the two in his car and intercepted them near Noida border. The beat police staff present there also joined him and one of the snatchers was nabbed. The woman's bag was handed over to her with all the articles intact," he said.

To escape arrest, the duo jumped in a drain. The policemen also followed suit and nabbed Hussain while his accomplice identified as Arjun Singh Cheema fled, police said.
