Man held carrying over 5,000 bottles of illicit liquor

A 22-year-old man was arrested from Anand Vihar in East Delhi after more than 5,000 bottles of illicit liquor were allegedly recovered from his, police said today.

Deepu Kumar Pandey was held at a police picket set up near Anand Niketan where his car was intercepted because it had no registration number plate, senior officials said.

"During the search of the vehicle, 105 cartons containing 5,250 quarter liquor bottles and seven cartons containing 84 beer bottles, with the 'sale in Haryana' mark were recovered by the policemen," said Nupur Prasad, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Shahdara.

During questioning, the accused revealed that was carrying the illicit liquor from Bahadurgarh in Haryana to be unload at Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, she said.
 

The DCP added that Pandey told police that he had come to Delhi from Bihar 15-20 days ago in search of job. He came in contact with a man who offered to employ him as a driver and he accepted it, said the officer.
