Timely action by an alert passer-by saved a 6-year-old girl from a sexual assault after she was kidnapped by a man near her school here.
The 22-year-old accused was today arrested from Kushaiguda area in the city for 'kidnapping' the minor girl with the intention to 'sexually assault' her, police said.
G Ajay, an operator of commercial vehicle, 'abducted' the victim and her 9-year-old brother on his bike from Uppal area while they were proceeding on foot towards their residence from school yesterday afternoon, they said.
After reaching some distance the accused dropped the girl's brother and fled with the baby girl, Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M Bhagwat said.
"While moving on his motorcycle the accused misbehaved with the victim... a passer-by noticed the girl crying and he dialled 100 and also the local police and informed about the girl and the accused," the Commissioner said.
Immediately patrol vehicles rushed to the spot and the girl was rescued while the accused was taken into custody, Bhagwat said adding the kidnap case was detected within three hours of the incident and the girl was handed over to her family members.
Following a complaint lodged by the girl's father a case was registered under IPC section 366 A (Procuration of minor girl) and under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
