Man held for cheating people by posing as property dealer

A 26-year-old man from Bihar's Bhagalpur district has been arrested for allegedly cheating people on pretext of selling cheap plots in Greater Noida area on the outskirts of Delhi.

Afroj alias Afroj Ahmed, a resident of village Khera of Bihar's Bhagalpur district, was arrested on the complaint of one Rekha Devi, police said today.

"Ahmed, who had an office at Vardhman City Plaza in the name of Ashiyana Property and Builders, had lured Devi and three others to invest in property and entered into an agreement to provide them plots in Greater Noida at cheap rates," said Devesh Chandra Srivastava, Addl CP Central District.
 

According to police, Devi had paid Rs 10.12 lakh to Afroj who neither got the sale deed registered nor returned the amount to the buyers.

Later, he closed his office and went missing.

During investigation, it came to light that Ahmed was running his office at Vardhman Plaza in the name and style of Ashiyana Builders.

He was located to Bhagalpur, from where he was arrested, Srivastava said.

During interrogation, he said he worked as a security guard and later as a property dealer. He launched his own firm at Vardhaman Plaza and started advertising his office as Ashyiana Builders, resembling and imitating a known developer of Noida.

"He lured lower middle class persons into investing in the property at Sector 80 Noida (UP) and also used to take them to Noida, where he had a small office. He entered into agreements for sale of plots at village Kakrola Sector 80 with the aggrieved persons and later ran away withe their money," said Srivastava.
