Man held for duping insurance cos

A 35-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly duping insurance companies by raising multiple insurance claims on one car after lodging false auto theft reports, Crime Branch of Delhi Police today said.

With the arrest of Ashiq Chaudhary, a resident of UP's Ghaziabad, police claimed to have busted a gang of cheats and recovered two cars, a Hyundai i10 and Swift Dzire.

Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav said Ashiq had reported theft of his car at Geeta Colony police station in east Delhi in 2013 and a case was lodged which was later closed as untraced.

He then claimed the insurance from HDFC insurance company of Rs 5.7 lakh and after claiming the amount, he got his car recovered and released on superdari illegally by concealing the facts from court, police said.
 

They said he then connived with his brother-in-law Amar Chaudhary and ownership of the car was transferred in his name and they both again reported theft of the car in July 2015 at e-Police Station Crime Branch here which was investigated at Anand Vihar police station.

For the second time, an insurance claim of Rs 3.4 lakh was obtained from Reliance insurance company, it said.

Ashiq was arrested on December 30, 2015 when the police got an information that he would be coming to Darya Ganj.

During his interrogation, Ashiq revealed that their gang has also lodged theft report of another Swift Dzire car and they had obtained insurance amount of Rs 5.69 lakh from the firm and also got the vehicle released on superdari illegally by concealing facts from court.

Ashiq, a class 12 pass out, had joined a private job and later, he allegedly started duping insurance companies to earn easy money and formed a gang comprising his brother-in-law and others.
