The Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir police today arrested a person from Bengaluru for allegedly duping people of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of giving them admission in various colleges in Karnataka.
"A man lodged a complaint with the Crime Branch that accused Jami Balaji of Odisha who was living in Bengaluru has duped them of more than Rs 20 lakh on the pretext of getting his son admitted in a college in Bengaluru," a police spokesman said.
He said the accused also asked them that he would buy some property in Bengaluru for them for which the victim paid him another Rs 54 lakh.

On the basis of the complaint, the crime branch initiated investigation and checked the bank records beside collecting other evidence.
"A team was sent to Bangalore where they arrested the accused and brought him back to Jammu. On further probe, it was found that the accused had duped several other persons as well in different parts of the country," he said.
A case under various sections of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC) has been registered against the accused, he added.
