A man has been arrested for allegedly duping several persons of money by posting advertisements while posing as an Army official on an online buying-selling website, police said today.

Sagar Mishra, held last week, posted advertisements to sell an SUV on the website where second-hand goods are sold. To take the buyer into confidence, he uploaded his photograph in the Army uniform on his profile, a senior police official said.

He would then collect the payment for the vehicle through online banking, but never delivered the vehicle to the buyer, he said.

Using this modus operandi Mishra duped eight to ten persons, the official said.

Following a complaint by one of the victims, the Byculla police in the city arrested him last week from Meera Road locality. Further probe in this connection is underway.
