A man was arrested for allegedly duping several people in Delhi and Telangana on the pretext of selling mobile phones through a fictitious e-commerce site, police said today.

Ashraf, 32, would deceive "innocent" people through e-commerce website by advertising -- "For sale or exchange of mobile phones".

"Accused along with his associates used to dupe innocent victims and flee with his original mobile or cash after handing over dummy mobile phone to them," Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vijay Kumar said.

He had been operating in Telangana with his associates of Mustafabad area. All of them would travel by air to Hyderabad, he said.

With Ashraf's arrest, 10 cases of cheating in Telangana and two in Delhi have been solved, police said.

A tip-off was received by Head Constable Vikas that one cheat is engaged in publishing fake advertisements regarding sale or exchange of mobile phones, he said, adding that a team comprising SI Sandeep Dabas and ASI Naresh was constituted.

The team laid a trap at the instance of the informer and the accused was caught along with a scooty. One stolen mobile phone was recovered from his possession, Kumar said.
