Man held for extorting money to help jailed gang-members

A person has been arrested for allegedly being involved in extorting money from betting operators to help his jailed gang-members, police said today.

Sahil (26), an active member of southwest Delhi's Saddam gang was recently nabbed near Suraj Vihar bus stop following a tip-off, said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch).

The accused is involved in 19 cases. He was currently involved in extorting money from betting operators in west and southwest Delhi to financially help his associates, including gang leader Saddam Gauri, who is lodged in Rohini jail and facing trials, the police officer said.

The gang is associated with the dreaded Neeraj Bawana- Amit Bhura gang. They were also involved in planning the escape of Amit Bhura from police custody in Uttarakhand, Yadav added.
