To teach a lesson to his wife whom he suspected of having an illicit relationship, a 25-year-old man kidnapped his five-year-old stepson from Shillong and left the child at his native place in Bihar.

The accused then came to Delhi and started working as a labourer but could not hide for long as he was arrested yesterday from a construction site at Bamnoli village in Dwarka.

The accused, identified as Ajay Kumar Roy alias Satrajeet, was arrested after SP, Shillong, requested Delhi police that he be traced and arrested.

The SP had told Delhi police on Tuesday that a man who had kidnapped a five-year-old boy from there on April 19 is using some mobile numbers of Delhi/NCR and may be hiding in southwest Delhi area.

"As the case involved safety and welfare of a minor child, a team of special staff sprung into action and using technical surveillance traced the hideout of Ajay Roy. Yesterday, a team of Shillong Police also reached Delhi and joined the raiding party. The accused was arrested from a construction site," said DCP (southwest) R A Sanjeev.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime and stated that he had married the woman in 2014 after her first husband died in 2013. The victim child is a son from her previous husband. After the marriage, differences surfaced between the accused and his wife. He suspected the character of his wife and they often had quarrels due to this.

He decided to teach her a lesson and kidnapped the boy on April 19 night from his in-laws' house. He dropped the child at his native place in Bihar and came to Delhi and started working as a labourer in order to escape arrest.
