A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his pregnant wife by slitting her throat and wrist, police said today.

Sandip Rai, a resident of Shyam Park colony told the police that he had married Pooja (23) three months ago, SP (City) Akash Tomar said.

"Pooja was pregnant and anaemic. She was undergoing treatment for her ailment and due to financial crisis, the accused was not in a condition to bear the expenses, that is why they often used to have arguments," he said.

"On August 13, he reached home and picked a quarrel with his wife and in a fit of anger he slit her throat," the SP said, adding that he fled from the spot after the crime.

The next day, he informed the police that his wife was found dead in her room as some unknown assailant had killed her by slitting her wrist and throat, Tomar said.

After lodging the compliant, police summoned the forensic expert who lifted the finger prints from the knife used in the crime.

Police suspected the man's claims and after questioning, they found the complaint to be concocted.

Following a tip-off, police today arrested him from Sahibabad railway station, Tomar added.
