A day after a BJP MLC Ashok Agrawal received a threat call, Katihar police today arrested a man for being allegedly involved in the case.

Acting on surveillance of the mobile from which the extortion and threat calls were made to Agrawal, the police located its tower in Bhagwanpur Khutipur Diara and arrested the accused Bhikhari Mandal who confessed to have made the call to the BJP MLC, the Superintendent of Police (SP) Chhatraneel Singh said.

The mobile phone used for making extortion and threat calls to Agrawal and other people was also recovered from possession of the accused, he said.

Mandal had made these calls from a mobile phone of one Basudev Singh with whose wife he had a relationship, Singh said adding he wanted to frame her husband in a false case.

The BJP MLC had yesterday lodged a police complaint with regard to extortion and threat calls made to him by an anonymous caller demanding Rs two lakh or be prepared to face dire consequences.
