Man held for making extortion call to MLA

The police summoned the man from Janpur chowk yesterday for interrogation and arrested him on the basis of evidences against him for making the extortion calls to MLA Pramod Kumar, superintendent of police Ganesh Kumar said.

The person was identified as Ahteshamul Haque, the brother of Deputy Chief Councillor of Nagar Parishad Mohibul Haque.

He had made allegedly the extortion call to the BJP MLA demanding Rs 10 lakh and threatened him with dire consequences if he failed to meet the demand, Kumar said.

Haque had made similar calls to his own brother who also lodged a case at the Town police station in Motihari against the caller, the SP said.

 

During investigation, it came to light that the accused person had got a sim card issued in the name of a woman on fake documents with an intention to frame her in the extortion case, Kumar said.
